As the year comes to an end, it's the perfect time to reflect on your career and set new goals for the future. At Page Personnel, we believe in empowering individuals to reach their full potential.
The end of the year marks a natural transition point. It's a time when many people think about their career growth, personal development, and overall well-being. If you've been contemplating making a change or seeking new challenges, now is the ideal moment to take action. A fresh start in a new job can bring renewed energy, growth opportunities, and a chance to make 2024 your best year yet.
In today's competitive job market, your CV (curriculum vitae) is often your first opportunity to make a lasting impression on potential employers. A well-crafted CV can open doors to exciting career opportunities, while a poorly written one might close them. To help you create a compelling CV that stands out from the crowd, we've put together some valuable tips and best practices.
Start by selecting the appropriate CV format. The most common formats are chronological (listing your work experience in reverse chronological order), functional (emphasizing your skills & qualifications), or a combination of both.
It might be a little obvious, but include your name, phone number, (a professional) email address, and LinkedIn profile (if applicable) at the top of your CV. We want to make sure that the employer can contact you after seeing your impressive resume!
Customize your CV for each job application to highlight relevant skills and experiences.
Use clear and concise language to describe your experiences and achievements. Avoid jargon and buzzwords – be specific about your accomplishments. Whenever possible, use numbers to quantify. For example, “increased sales by 30% in the first quarter” is more impactful than “improved sales”.
List your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent job. For each position, include the company name, location, job title, and dates of employment. Use bullet points to describe your responsibilities and achievements.
Include your educational background, including the name of the insitution, degree earned, graduation date, and any relevant honors or awards.
Create a dedicated section to showcase your skills. This can include technical skills, languages spoken, certifications, and soft skills like communication and leadership.
Emphasize skills that are transferable to the job you're applying for.
You can mention that references are available upon request, but it's not necessary to include them on your CV.
Ensure your CV is error-free and easy to read. Consider seeking feedback from a trusted friend or colleague.
